quick update, got the engine pulled with the help of will and a few of my friends. Also got the trans in today and did some mock up. looks like it should fit

will most likely need to do alittle trimming here but i have to get the shortened housing (brings center of shifter to 32" from bell housing) and get it mounted to the 2J first before i worry about that

Looks really beefy. I would like to come by with a T56 and compare the 2.  This might be an option for my 20b.

this would not have been possible without using a load leveler, very tight squeeze You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
and shes in, still need to massage the tunnel alittle in the back which should allow the engine to sit another inch back.

got a single turbo manifold being made right now and also have my clutch coming in. I have to pull the engine out and do some more tunnel massaging but so far its looking good

Lots or room on the passenger side of the engine. Sounds like you decided to go straight to single turbo. What turbo are you going to run?

soo things have been slow waiting on parts and also due to the cold weather but i have been doing small things here and there with some planning in between. I also got alot done this weekend so i figured an update was necessary.

the engine came out again so i could massage the tunnel in the area around where the passengers knee would be. This was the only spot that it was making contact with. I also notched the seam weld on the firewall and this allowed me to get the engine back about 2 inches and get it pitched correctly.

I have also ordered some cheap ebay delrin mounts to attempt to drop the engine in the front another 3/4 inch. I have about 1 inch between the upper oil pan and the steering rack wiht the current mount setup. This should allow my hood fitment to be much better but more importantly get that COG down:)

current front fitment

this allowed my shifter position to be right at the center of the stock position. I will be running the serialnine shift box You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login which sets the shift knob at 29.5" from the bell housing which is faintly marked on the trans in this picture.

Picked up some dry ice and stripped all the sound deadening

then started on some final maintenance work on the 2J which included cam seals, front/rear main seals, cam gear rebuild, new waterpump, and timing belt. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

VVTI gear disassembled and cleaned up to swap the oring

also figured out my cooling line routing to the heater core. As Will suggested, i have already cut off the bend on one of the lines coming from the heater box and i will run a heater hose line to the firewall on the cabin side then connect it to the lower line in the picture or by drilling a new hole under the top line which will tee right into the stock 2JZ coolant crossover pipe. The other line will go to the back of the head as seen.

I have been planning my power steering and alternator setup and actually had the stock rx7 pump mounted to the engine at one point. This would still require me to get new fittings and a pulley so i decided to stick with the 2jz pump. After some research it looks like i would need 3 different AN fittings to connect the rack to the pump. I still need to figure out how to control it but i am assuming it is a PWM signal.

i also happened to call full race to discuss turbine housing sizing and John at full race began throwing all these special prices at me which ended up being significantly cheaper than their website pricing. couldn't pass that up so i now have a borg warner S300SXE 8376 (62MM) with twin tial MVS' wastegates on the way. Still waiting on my turbo manifold to show up which should be sometime this week or next week. I have also been talking with adaptronic on engine management and i think i will be running their new modular series ECU being released in march.

Nice work.

A 1/4 inch between the pan and rack should be perfect.  I'm no power steering expert, but my understanding is that it can run in a non-variable effort condition.  But maybe variable effort is needed for drifting?

Let me know when you want to do the cross member and we will make it happen.
