: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread
: ITSWILL September 23, 2015, 11:39:50 PM
As some of you have seen I have been trying to gauge interest in a lemons or chumpcar team for 2016. The point or both organizations is to provide a relatively low budget way to get a lot of racing experience.  Both are endurance type races designed to test the limits of cheap cars.  Winning a race in either lemons or chump isn't going to get your rich. Winning a chumpcar race gets you a trophy and 1000 chump dollars which can only be used to cover chumpcar entry fees which is a $1000 for most races.  Winning a Lemons race gets you a trophy and $500 in nickles. Both seem to be pretty laid back but Lemons adds a silly factor, I believe the highest honor in Lemons is the "legends of lemons" award for the most impressive car.

Obviously time and money are the big commitments.  My estimate for the first year cost of building a car, buying spare parts and running 2 events is $10,000 split between 4 to 6 drivers ($2,500 to $1,667 depending on number of drivers). Half of this money would be needed up front to get started building the race car. It's hard to estimate the time commitment but I would guess high and say it would take 100 hours per driver to develop and build the race car.

For the second year I estimate the cost of maintenance/repairs and racing 2 events to be about $5,000 and the time commitment to be somewhere around 20 to 30 hours.

I think the FC would make a great racer and having a team from the MRC would help us build a car with our combined experience and parts!

A few people have posted their interest in the chat box, but if you didn't catch the discussion there and are interested feel free to post here.  I would like to get everyone who is interested to meet up sometime during the weekend of October 3rd or the weekend of October 10th so we can work through the details and determine if this will be viable.  Also, if you know anyone else who might be interested and able to make the commitment let them know too, racing experience would be good but isn't necessary.

I am in for this.  Meeting during the week would be better.  We could meet in the evening of oct 3rd.

I'm all for this, but like I stated previously time is going to be my issue. Count me in though, not sure when I'll be able to come out and meet up though any time soon. Either way, I'll be able to help out with the budget if we get a few people in on this.

THIS is what makes it look so fun, even with all sorts of issues, fixing crap, and just beating on the car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbcyi_rGdjU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbcyi_rGdjU)
: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread
: ITSWILL September 24, 2015, 08:31:48 AM
Yeah I probably wouldn't want to beat the car too hard. I think we would all be disappointed with only 24 laps like the roadkill guys.

I had a long talk with a friend tonight who has raced Lemons for a few years with another team.  He had a lot of insight and is considering joining our cause.  His suggestion was 5 drivers because with 4 drivers if someone can't make a race you have to scramble to find a fill in who doesn't car about the car and will likely beat the piss out of it.  And with 6 drivers the time is spread to thin.

There will likely be a race in April at Gingerman next year but i think that will be too early.  I'm thinking we could make something by June or later.

I definitely don't want this to be something that consumes all my time.  I think this will require a 3 to 5 hour a week commitment.

I talked to a few of you already, but I have found a great FC for the lemons car since it already has a professionally installed cage.   This should save a lot of time.  So far Rich, Marcus and myself are on board for sure.  It would be good if we could get a commitment from 2 more people because I would like to buy the car soon.

I went to register just a minute ago when I got to this page. We need a team name and a concept before we can register. So please think of some ideas this week and lets decide on a team name and concept this weekend when we get the car.

Yeah I thought of that but when I googled it, it looks like it has been done a few times.

Lately I have been thinking we could do something that makes fun of drifters somehow since it was supposed to be a drifting car.  We could be called "the drifters" and try to act extra cool lol.
: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread
: ~Groll69~ December 07, 2015, 10:59:19 AM
as the drifters, we could go two ways with it or a combination of the two ways.  One is making fun of the drifting cars and two making fun of cowboy drifters who go from town to town.  just a couple of thoughts.
: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread
: ITSWILL December 07, 2015, 12:03:54 PM
my thought was a combination of the two.
: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread

Rich and Marcus:

We are going to have to do some work to get this thing rolling. It sounds like he has the hardware but we will need to bring a few things.

Front knuckles
Rear cradle/suspension assembly
Front Shocks
Rear Shocks
brake rotors (so wheels go on right)
4 tire and wheel (5 lug) assemblies that hold air.

I think I have everything but the wheels and tires.  I could use a hand locating it all and getting it together if someone has time after work today or tomorrow or something.
: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread
: murz December 07, 2015, 02:56:24 PM
Unfortunately I have classes tonight and tomorrow as well as Wednesday, I'm booked Thursday night as well. I could try for Friday.

I really like the Drifter idea, I was also thinking of going Overboard with a "JDM/Ricer kind of theme, just making it ridiculous and overboard. I don't have any 5 lug wheels and tires unfortunately.
: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread
: murz December 07, 2015, 03:00:35 PM
I like the idea of acting "extra cool" we'll have to somewhat dress the part too, maybe. Could even do a bosozuku theme sort of thing.

That's awesome! Was thinking, there's the Redsuns idea, or we could even do a mock of Mad Mike's red bull FD.

We could paint it up like Dom's FD from the first movie and do a fast and furious spoof.  We could go around claiming that other racers have a 100 grand under their hood.

: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread
: ~Groll69~ December 09, 2015, 10:16:21 AM
Yes lets meet at ItsWills place in the morning.  I would think 930 or 10 would be a good time.  Need to confirm it.  We pulled some parts in order to get the car rolling.  I have to dig out some parts on my end and run them up there.  We can then toss them in his truck and head out to get the car.  The earlier we can wrap up the morning, the better for me since party at my house i have to prepare for.

I got the front and rear struts along with 4 rims with bald tires and lots of lugnuts.  I will drop them off later tonight as discussed.  I will call you (itswill) before i do.

I do have 2 used dirt tires on rims and two more different dirt tires not on rims and i am getting a good battery from elwood

Between 9:30 and 10:00 AM tomorrow -- I'll be there.  Are tires "safety equipment" or no?  I often have a line on tires.

Tires and brakes are considered safety equipment. There's a few other things as well.

Tires are safety equipment but the tread wear rating can't be lower than 190.

I may have discovered a bit of a concern when I calculated top speed for the car.

With the engine revving to 6000 RPM, a non overdrive transmission (1:1) final ratio and the stock 25 inch tall tires the top speed will be only 109 MPH.
With the engine revving to 6000 RPM, an overdrive transmission (0.87:1) final ratio and the stock 25 inch tall tires the top speed will be 125 MPH.
With the engine revving to 6000 RPM, a non overdrive transmission (1:1) final ratio and the stock 28 inch tall tires the top speed will be 121 MPH.
With the engine revving to 6000 RPM, an overdrive transmission (0.87:1) final ratio and the stock 28 inch tall tires the top speed will be 140 MPH.

UPDATE: I looked at more transmission overdrive ratios and it appears they are around 0.75. With that ratio we should be fine without changing tire diameter.

For next weekend as we discussed,  (I think Rich may have been gone) the plan will be to work on the suspension, brakes and steering on Saturday.

Feel from to come over anytime after 9 AM.  Feel free to come anytime during the week too as I am on vacation until the new year. If its OK with everyone else I will probably get some work done on it during the week.

I have been looking for a transmission.  I'm thinking the NV3500 that came in 4.3L S10s and 1500s could work.

I found this.
http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/pts/5346638559.html (http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/pts/5346638559.html)
I'm not sure we really need the engine but we could use the transmission.  Maybe we could sell the engine and scrap the truck and get the transmission for free.

More s10s, I think there is a chance we could low ball the hell out of any of these and part the trucks to wind up with a free transmission.

Do we know what diameter wheels we're running yet? I heard a lot of 15 and 17 on Saturday. My vote is for 17 if we can swing that.

As for those Direzzas Will said something about being able to go as wide as a 275 on the rear of RX-7's in general there isn't a 16 or a 17 that wide. However, if we don't mind losing a little width in the rear, the 255/40R17 available looks like a pretty badass street tire.

On a third note, do we really want to be as close to the 190 treadwear limit as possible? Will was talking up his Michelin tires and how grippy they were, and they had a pretty high treadwear rating if I remember correctly.
: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread
: ITSWILL December 14, 2015, 05:42:44 AM
I was having a hard time finding anything wider than a 205 in the 15 inch size. There are a lot of sporty tires in the 17 inch size. From what I have been reading it sounds like we will likely only have one tire change if at all. I say we find the best tire and then find wheels to fit.  Generally lower Treadway is stickier and will perform better.

I think a 225 in the front would be good and in the rear we can get creative since we will have a lot of room.

Any used transmission could be a crap without being it from a running car. I think we should disassemble and repair anything we get.

I will bring up the fenders and hood i have this week.  i have only 3 good 17" rims that were off of the mazda 6.  I do have a set of rx7 turbo rims that are 16" of course i have provided the set of 15" rims on the car now.  I think the plan is to try and stick with the 15" rims since Murz had the lighter bbs from the vert which are 15"

if we are going wider then we would want the larger rim.  maybe we run 17" or 16 in the rear and 15 in the front.  Just an idea.

No worries,  I got all the rear suspension stuff cleaned up and painted. I checked the differential out as well. It looks pretty good the plates were at the low end of the spec but should be fine and the ring and pinion showed no abnormal wear. I just need to find a differential mount and the diff and rear suspension can go back in. After I change out the rotted fuel and brake lines of course.

Tonight consisted of playing with a wire wheel brush and chemicals.  Will and I got the tank pretty well cleaned up.  Hydrochloric acid is definitely something dont want to play with on a regular basis, especially in closed spaces.  That stuff worked well in cleaning up the inside of the tank.  We should be posting pics later.

No leaks. A little more cleaning and painting it should be good to go.

Here is what came out of the tank by hand.

Can anyone pick up 10 pounds of dry ice on their way over tomorrow? I'm not exactly sure where to get it but we need it to easily and cleanly get the sound deadener out of the car.  Also we need like a pint of isopropyl alcohol and some heavy winter gloves to handle this stuff.

I am keeping track of the finances.  Please save your receipts and give to me of anything you spend for the car.  things specifically spent on the car will be tracked and costs evened out with the exception of personal safety gear.  I would like to track that to but not necessary.  All costs are privileged information and will never be posted on here.  I will be happy to share individually as requested.  It will be used also to verify we maintain our budget.  I do request that you put your name on the top of each receipt that is yours.  If we have team funds we will utilize that first.  I will discuss tomorrow in person.

I weighed the sound deadener we took out of the car today. 26.9 POUNDS!, pretty cheap mass reduction.

Thanks to the team for all the hard work today and food everyone bought.  After everyone left I came in and Rima had brownies ready for all of us.  They are delicious.

The next get together is December 30th and the plan is to work on the brakes and start installing the engine and transmission. In the meantime I'm going to try to get the front suspension finished and the fuel tank and sender finished and installed. Don is working on the brackets for the rear brakes and cleaning up the front brakes. And if we want to put the engine and trans in we need to find a transmission too.

This is the piece that has to be welded to prevent any play, this is what eliminates the sloppy feel in the rack. Other things that have to be done, are remove the valve separator within the rack housing, which separates the left and right valves. All fluid holes must also be blocked off.

Don and I picked up the transmission today! It's an NV3500 from a 1998 2WD S10.  It's a beefy little sucker! The shifter center is located 16 inches back from the back of the bellhousing flange where the current shifter hole is 30 inches back from the firewall.  It's not even close.  With that said I think we can make some linkage to move the shifter position back in the car.  The position also gives us an opportunity to move the engine back further.  We could make it mid-engine technically!

(http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m617/WPhilippin/Lemons-Chump/20151221_175530_zpsntcjn6jj.jpg) (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/WPhilippin/media/Lemons-Chump/20151221_175530_zpsntcjn6jj.jpg.html)

The end of the tape measure shows where the bell housing flange would sit if the shifter lined up.

I cleaned up the transmission a little bit and stuck her up in there.  Just put it in the standard location for now.

The bolt on the tape measure shows where the front of the engine will land.  If we leave the engine in this position the radiator support will need to be made perpendicular to the ground like my LS1 Car and we would have about 5 inches from the water pump to the radiator for the electric fan to fit it.

(http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m617/WPhilippin/Lemons-Chump/20151222_203253_zpsmmdbgymd.jpg) (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/WPhilippin/media/Lemons-Chump/20151222_203253_zpsmmdbgymd.jpg.html)

I'm thinking we could cut the firewall here.

And cut the floor here and slide the tunnel and firewall back.

14 inches

Today I cleaned the inside of the fuel tank one more time with acid.  It was really surprising how much more crap came out.

Then I sanded everything back down to raw metal and ground out any deeper rust.

Then I etch primed it.

If you move the engine back that far, how much of it will be hidden by the cowl & inaccessible? It seems like serviceability, especially on race day, may be hindered a bit.

Overall, it looks like a LOT of progress is being made quickly! It looks like you're electrolyzing the fuel pump sender? What do you have it soaking in?
: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread
: ITSWILL December 29, 2015, 04:49:54 PM
I think we will be able to move it back 6 to 8 inches, I will know better tomorrow.  Since we have the rollcage the chassis is super stiff, I'm thinking we will make part of the tunnel removable for super easy access.

I have it in salt water, I know its making chlorine gas but I'll just open the garage door before I go back in.

With the mock engine put together, I started looking at how the engine could fit in the car.

As you can see the Tuned Port Injection setup (TPI)  (TOP) with its height and setback doesn't lend itself to being pushed back under the dash.
The Throttle Body Injection (TBI) (MIDDLE) and the Quadrajet Carb manifold sit back about the same.

Allowable setbacks are as follows:
TPI: 2"
TBI: 7"
Carb: 7"

(http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m617/WPhilippin/Lemons-Chump/20151230_161812_zpslhqmtpgo.jpg) (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/WPhilippin/media/Lemons-Chump/20151230_161812_zpslhqmtpgo.jpg.html)

I also stuck some pretty low profile, log style exhaust manifolds on the engine and it measures 24" wide.

The yellow marks show where the firewall would need to be cut to leave room for the engine.  The outboard most marks give 26" of space.

Dondo and I are both kinda out of commission for a while I'm afraid.  I ordered new front calipers.  I'll have to send the remains of the originals back in for an $80 core refund, if they accept them.  I swear they had been sitting at the bottom of the ocean.
: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread
: ITSWILL January 02, 2016, 06:49:13 AM
I hope you guys feel better soon.  Thanks for ordering new calipers.  I talked to a guy about brake wear and tire wear and he said that both last an entire race on his RX7.  With that said,  I think we should stick with the stock brake setup to start out at least. If everyone agrees to stick to the stock calipers for now, then we just need to order a set of EBC Yellow Stuff brake pads for an 87 RX7 Turbo II to finish the brakes.

: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread
: Big Don Straitiff January 03, 2016, 07:28:29 AM
OK.  I'll still go over the real calipers to make sure they're working the best they can.  I put silicone fluid in both my old Buicks, mostly for corrosion reasons.  The big downside of it is that it is very expensive, and isn't just carried at any old store.  I'm thinking that since we're likely to be going through brake fluid fast enough than DOT3/4 isn't going to have enough time to get saturated with water anyway, so it should perform just fine for us.
: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread

I started figuring out the engine mount setup for the car.  Today I drew the adapters to move the engine mounts back.  I sent the drawings to Don and he's going to see about getting them cut out on a laser.

I use MOTUL 600 in my FD, what are you recommending to use?

Also, I modified a stock distributor so that it will plug the hole and still drive the oil pump off the camshaft.

He had a bunch of questions like what was the year of the block? I'm not a TPI guy, but he has a bunch of parts (couple short blocks too) from his old transmarobird.  He was asking about the valve covers, intake, etc.  Some year engines are better than others, etc.

The engine is older, like from the 70s but it is a 4 bolt main. The valve covers are perimeter style. The intake must be an older one since it has the extra injector.

Thank you to the team for coming out and spending your Saturday working on the car.  Most of the Chassis work is completed now with the brakes and front suspension being completed this weekend!

Based on the work I can think of that needs to be completed we have at least 9 or 10 Saturdays of work left to get the car ready to start tuning.

My initial plan for next Saturday 10am to 10pm is below: ( let me know if this works for everyone or if you would rather do something else)

Will: Install water pump and alternator (2 Saturdays)

Don: Rebuild and install brake master, fabricate and install drive shaft

Marcus: Install remote oil filter, oil cooler and oil accumulator (2 Saturdays)

Dondo: Bleed brakes, remove rear speaker brackets, remove jack brackets, remove trans mount brackets, remove all other not needed brackets

Rich: Bleed brakes, fix passenger door, install rear view mirror, install fire extinguisher

Don and I have been talking about  tires a bit and all the research we look at seems to point to running Michelin Pilot Super Sports.  Below is a comparison that Car and driver did on summer performance tires.  The Michelin seems to kick butt in the dry and the wet and they are 300 treadwear so there is a good chance they could last us a whole race. Since I have these tires on my RX7 as is I suggest we just swap them on the race car once it's running and evaluate the tires.

Awesome! great work so far! I won't be able to make it this weekend, prior engagements, plus I've come down with some strange medical issue.

The Remote Oil filter, where are we thinking of putting it? I'll look up some ideas as well.

Rich painted the crossmember last night.  Looks even better now.

The main reason for the remote filter is so we have a good place to tap into for the oil cooler.  We'll have to find a good place for it.

Have the shift linkage generally cobbled -- just have to fit it to the car and finish the details thereafter.  Pretty happy with how it is turning out.  The 10mm nuts came today, and I plan to have the propshaft ready for this Saturday.  BTW:  Monster Jam was awesome!

I just wanted to give everyone an update on our current timing.  Assuming everyone can make it every Saturday and put in a full days work we will have the car completed and ready to start it and start working out bugs on the 28th of May.  Realistically things will go wrong and best case on average 1 person won't be able to make it per week. This pushes us back to June 11th and this is where we can just start testing and trouble shooting.

After June 11th we should have the obvious issues fixed and we will be ready to start tuning the engine and fixing other on road bugs this is going to take a bare minimum of a month.  This puts us at the middle of July.

After that we need to test and tune the suspension, steering and brakes on the road and on the track at least another month here too.  This puts us at the middle of August and we will have missed our July 23rd race.

But we still aren't done at that point. We need to put together replacement parts, like the engine, transmission, driveshaft, differential, etc and install them and make sure they work this basically brings us to October.

So, we have basically 2 options here.

Option 1:We get serious and bust our asses and work  the equivalent of 2 full days a week (Maybe add a couple days after work or something) and that could shave 9 weeks putting us at completion August 1st, which is clearly not July 15 which is our drop dead completion date to make the July race.  I don't know what everyone else thinks but I am also willing to take carcation days from work to get us where we need to be.

Option 2: We miss the July 23rd race (lame) and race one race this year on October 8th. The big risk here is that we get out there, something goes terribly wrong, the race is a bust and we wont have another opportunity to race until 2017.

Not an option 3: We keep working at the current pace and we will be lucky to race in 2017 ( seriously)

I promise you guys this timing is realistic and we will not race this year if we continue the way we are so please think about this and let me know what you guys want to do?

My vote is to bust ass and try to get it done for July.

lets bust ass.  We should be doing repair parts concurrently with other parts.  granted some things need to be in place in order to make.  What parts still need to be purchased.  We need to get them on hand and that will help speed up our time.

I'll be there the next two Saturdays, then I'll be out of state for work for two weekends. Late April I'll start being on call on weekends as well, which is about one weekend a month, I can still wrench, but will need to be near my computer at all times.

School started back up this week, so my week days and Sunday are pretty much spoken for. I'm hoping this quarter is a easier than last quarter, if so I could try and drop by after work on Fridays, or maybe a Sunday.

I totally want to race in July, but just want you guys to know... School sucks. I'm doing what I can though.

I'm in the same boat as Murz when it comes to school. I might be able to stop by on Thursday evenings and maybe I can convince my dad to run out a little early so we can get there around 2:30-3:00. I'm definitely good for Saturdays and I vote we bust serious ass.

I hope everyone had a good Easter.  As you all know we had a pretty big setback last week.  The cylinder head issue should be straightened out by tomorrow night and I will be working Friday night to button up the engine.  If anyone can come lend a hand it would be a big help.

The plan for this Saturday is to:

-Relocate the Stab bar Dondo

-Install the engine and connect everything (timed) Everyone

-Complete Crank trigger/sensor mounting Will

-Install starter with correct bolts Don

Also wanted to mention that the Gingerman race that we will spectate is coming up soon on the 23rd of April. So pencil that date in your schedules.  The race starts at 10am and I would like to get there an hour before to check things out.  I am going to be leaving my house at 6am to get there around 9am, we can car pool/ convoy.  Just let me know what you guys want to do.

We got a good amount of work done this Saturday,  but I think things took longer than expected and we didn't get it all done.  I wasn't able to get all the wiring I could done and we didn't get the spark plug wires sorted either.  Currently the plan is to start the engine May 14th before my B-Day Party! I will do all the wiring I can this week. If anyone can spare a few extra hours during the week I think it will go a long way to make sure we stay on track.

Things that can be done at the beginning of the week:

-Chassis to engine harness wiring
-Spark plug wire routing
-Install oil accumulator
-Pre-Configure Megasquirt
-Adjust rear suspension height
-Install fire extinguisher

Towards the end of the week:
-Install Intake
-Install gauges
-Install clutch hydraulics
-Install crankshaft position sensor and bracket
-Install battery and wiring
-install kill switch
-Design Tow hooks

I know everyone has busy schedules but if you can spare a couple hours during the week one person could knock out one or two of these items.

What is Saturday's build plan?  I have the kill switches that I ordered.  That shouldn't be an all day effort.  I won't be able to make it till about 2 though due to CJ's soccer game at 12.  I may be able to make it up Friday to install the kill switch.

basically we need to do almost everything above.  Also we may need to modify our roll cage.
: Re: Lemons/ Chump FC Interest Thread
: ITSWILL April 29, 2016, 10:45:51 AM
I have bad news and good news.  The bad news is our car is not going to race in Lemons without an entirely new roll cage.  The good news is, if we can get it below 2500 pounds we can race chump car with our current cage and it buys us another month before the Chump race.

Lemons requires 0.125 thick tubing and our tubing is 0.095 which is acceptable in almost every other racing.  And Chump is good with 0.095 as long as the car is less than 2500 pounds.

So I would like to take the car and get it weighed today and see if we have a chance of making it.  The name of the game this weekend is probably going to be further weight reduction.

How do we reduce the weight further?

Also the rear of the car weighs 1160 pounds and the front weight 1340 pounds for a 53/47 weight distribution.

Hopefully with the stuff that we had tossed in the car was over the weight of the things left to go into the car we should make it.  Plus we managed to remove an additional 63+lbs off of the car through removal of brackets and headlight assemblies, plus other rubberized things that are not needed.

I think that we can make it under 2500lbs and keep it there easily.  If all else fails we slap a rotary back into it and run it.   I think in the end we wont exceed 2450lbs.

I'm hoping for under 2400!

It has almost been a year since we started the Chump car and I am itching to get working on it again!  I have made a bunch of room in the pole barn so we should be able to work on the chump car with plenty of roomy in the little garage. Let me know when you guys are ready to get started again. The engine is close to running so that will be my first task. The seats and fire system are almost in too, so that's a task that could be worked on right away as well.  We made good progress last winter, if we can do it again we should be ready to race all summer in 2017!

This season is going to be near impossible for me to find time. Finishing up my classes in March, and so far I've been putting over 20 hrs in just homework over the weekends. Week days are booked with classes and, hopefully soon moving in and all that jazz.

It's been crazy so far, and I haven't even closed yet. I miss wrenching with you guys, we were pretty darn close to getting her fired up too!

I am looking forward to getting some work done on the car.  We got it pushed into the heated garage last night.  I am thinking Saturdays again, like 10am to whenever.  I know holidays are right around the corner but lets get this fired up before the new year!!!

Today Don and Rich came over. Don started working on mounting the seat and took it home to finish up. Rich finished mounting the battery box and fuse holder and installed the O2 sensor.  He also painted the spare tow hook.  I finished wiring the Air fuel ratio, coolant temp and oil pressure gauges.  I also finished wiring the wipers.

I'll try to get the tone wheel and crank sensor bracket re-designed this week so we can fire the engine soon!

I also picked up a HANS device the other day.  I got the HANS sport III new off of ebay for $330, they sell for $550 to $600. Almost seems too good to be true but we'll see when it arrives in a few days.

Yesterday Don got the detachable steering wheel finished after some fabrication over the week. He also got all the fluids filled and established TDC. Last week he brought the tone wheel and bracket for the hall sensor.

After some time Marcus and I got the Megasquirt to connect to the laptop.  Eventually, we found that we needed to upgrade the firmware to run MS Extra. Just before Marcus left we confirmed that we were getting 4 wasted spark ignition outputs on the Jim Stim.  After everyone left I set the rest of the base Calibration (tune) on the MS.

This week I will confirm the rest of the wiring and we should be ready to start the engine this weekend.
