So Rima was looking around CL for FDs and actually found this car on Wednesday in Dallas. I just happened to be going to Dallas the next day for work. I went and checked it out and left the seller a down payment. Now Andrew and I are flying back to Dallas in a week and driving it back!

Oh man, it was only a matter of time haha. Found yourself a clean FD it looks like, and for a good price too, considering all the modifications it has, including the wide-body and fresh engine. How wide are those rears? They look beefy!

congrats! looks great! if its got an REW in there and you want to go 3 rotor... lets talk :)

It has 255s on the front and 295s on the rear.

The engine is kinda of a mystery that needs some more research done.  I got a dyno sheet from when the engine was rebuilt and it did 288 WHP, estimated 351 Crank.  However it was modified further later to the stage 4 in the following link and dyno tuned, I don't have dyno numbers from that but they claim it should do 325 WHP.

http://rx7.com/store/rx7/fdpower.html (http://rx7.com/store/rx7/fdpower.html)

I'll probably just throw it on Andy's dyno and see what it puts down. Either way it is pretty darn powerful.
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: murz April 06, 2018, 09:21:16 PM
I bet it's making more than 325whp if it's got those mods on it, but who knows. How much boost was it putting down, and were the turbos sequential or parallel? At 1 bar, with similar mods, it can put down between 360whp and 380whp it looks like, stock ports?

http://www.banzai-racing.com/FD_TT_dyno_gallery.htm (http://www.banzai-racing.com/FD_TT_dyno_gallery.htm)

Considering this car makes about 220whp from the factory at 10psi, 5 more psi and it makes 130whp more with the right modifications, that's got to feel like quite the difference.

So I know I don't even have this car back at my house yet but all I keep thinking about is how busy the engine bay is.

I'm thinking about deleting the Power steering, deleting the ABS, deleting the air pump, replacing the intercooler couplers with black silicone pieces and polishing/painting things.  Also thinking to relocate the battery to the passenger side bin.

I think these things will really clean things up a lot and also reduce some mass for little cost.
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: murz April 07, 2018, 07:07:19 PM
The FD engine bay is busy without a doubt, especially with all of the stock components. I plan to ditch the air pump I have soon, and hopefully find a larger inter-cooler.
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: ITSWILL April 07, 2018, 07:18:44 PM
We should do an air to water on your car, I definitely would if this car didn't already have a Greddy SMIC. I would really like to do an airbox of some sort too.  The one you have is pretty nice and I really like that Autoexe intake but I would likely just make my own out of aluminum sheet.
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: murz April 07, 2018, 07:31:31 PM
An air to water cooler would be really neat, hoping to see how Pete's goes, and I know you had success with Rob's. Yeah, the intake boxes don't look too difficult to make, I can show you mine more in depth sometime, if you want to copy that design and use it as a template too.

Wow, that looks like its in good shape! Definitely a bit complicated under the hood, and it doesn't look like there is much room between the top of the engine and the hood for a top-mounted W2A intercooler, so probably the best spot would be out in front of the strut bar near where the OEM cooler is or where a V-mount would sit. Is there room to package the heat exchanger in the front of the car somewhere?
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: ITSWILL April 08, 2018, 10:37:26 AM
This car was for sale around here a while ago.  I think This air to water setup is almost perfect.  The only thing I would do different is mount the cooler to engine so It rolls with it.  I might move the BOV to the throttle side of the intercooler too, but that probably doesn't matter with as little flow restriction as this has.

Wow, that's a nice setup, is he using the engine coolant to cool the water? Is that the pump on the passenger side fender? Very clean setup though.

I spoke with the second owner  of that car today and found out some interesting history.

First off he bought it at a dealer where he was told the first owner traded it in for a Corvette.

Also he told me he sold it for more than I am paying which always feels good.

He also told me that it was street ported when it was rebuilt which the guy I bought it from didn't know about.

The best part is he told me it made over 350 something to to the tires!
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: murz April 08, 2018, 03:56:37 PM
Wow, that's interesting for sure. How did the idle sound? I'm suspecting mine was street ported too, the seller didn't have much information on the engine rebuild, as it was done before he bought it. I'll have to contact the previous owner too!

Definitely believe it, with the modifications you've got, 350whp sounds do-able without a doubt, hell, even more with a street port! Not sure if you mentioned this, but were the turbos running parallel or sequentially?
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: ITSWILL April 08, 2018, 05:10:29 PM
I did notice that the idle was a little high. I think the turbos are still sequential but I'm not 100% sure.

That is a great find.  Congrats Will!!!  So jealous because I want a third gen so bad.   I will have to save my pennies and hopefully I can find my own soon too, if I can save enough pennies.

I'm at the airport and my plane just arrived. Sounds like Andrew is at his gate in Atlanta for his layover.

Well it was supposed to be...

Turns out there was a big storm over Dallas and we couldn't wait it out with the fuel we had. So now I'm in Oklahoma City sitting and waiting to be refueled and Andrew got diverted to Austin and is doing the same.

Home of the Street Outlaws!

We finally got to Dallas and made it to the car around 10pm. We have everything a quick once over, filled her up and hit the road. We just stopped for the night in Texarkana TX. So far it has been raining and we have been hydroplaning a lot but the car is ruining well.  The worst issue so far is that the cigarette lighter socket isn't working. Hopefully we can get that fixed in the AM before we head out.

Out with the cat and in with the test pipe.  Sounds much better now and smells right too!  Hopefully it make the flames better too!

Notice any difference with boost without the cat? That come with the car? haha.

We'll see when the weather and roads improve.  I don't really expect much difference since it is a high flow cat but maybe.  Kinda, the seller wouldn't throw it in. I had to buy it.

I have been working on detailing the exterior.  I repainted the wiper arms, put on new blades, painted the defrost grill installed the rear efini badge and a bunch of other B.S.. I got it cleaned today and it is looking good.

Finally saw this in person this weekend, the pictures don't do this car justice at all. Thanks Will for giving me a ride in it, definitely a fast car! Nice to see the attention to detail you're putting into it already as well.
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: awfc3s April 23, 2018, 09:01:45 AM
It's only fast until 80 mph. Then you get lasered and have to slow down.
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: ITSWILL April 23, 2018, 09:16:12 AM
I disconnected the radar detector, problem solved!  We'll see if it still goes off once I have it plugged into the cigarette lighter.  Thinking to fix that and the tach today.
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: ITSWILL April 25, 2018, 08:01:30 AM
I got the cigarette lighter fixed and no more false alarms on the radar detector.

I thought I had the Tach fixed by doing a little solder work. However after a couple days of driving it went back to its normal bullshit.  I think I'm going to pull it all out again and see about replacing the capacitors in the tach.

Also, I have been getting after the air bags. When I pulled the cluster I noticed someone took the air bag bulb out.  Then I noticed that the air bag control module was unplugged.  Once I put everything back I am getting a 7 flash code which is implying something wrong with the passenger airbag.

Another issue I am tracking down is the horn not working which I am starting to believe is somehow related to the airbags.
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: murz April 25, 2018, 08:30:27 AM
I didn't even know USDM FD's had passenger airbags until now, it's just the 93's that had driver airbag only. Sucks the tach is screwy again, was hoping you had fixed it.

It made 304 at 12 pounds, I turned it up to 14 and it made the 324. Figured i would leave it at that rather than get greedy and blow it up.

That's not bad! What type of Dyno was this on? wondering the AFRs too. With the right tune, it's got a lot more in it I'm sure.
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: ITSWILL May 22, 2018, 06:27:55 AM
This was on a Mustang Dyno. Also his dyno although realistic it is one of the lowest reading around.

: fidelity101 May 22, 2018, 06:57:32 AM
you can see in the torque graph where the 2nd turbo kicks in, pretty cool!

Im surprised the peak power is only at like 6600 rpm
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: ITSWILL May 22, 2018, 07:00:34 AM
I am pretty happy with the calibration. Might get a few more HPs leaning it out but it's probably not worth the risk. If I wanted to do more I'm thinking I would need more injector. But again, we're talking about an engine that made 250 crank and is now more like 370 or 380.
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: murz May 22, 2018, 07:23:10 AM
Definitely an improvement without a doubt, yeah it's at a safe level for the fuel system. Did you get a Wideband setup in it?
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: ITSWILL May 22, 2018, 07:28:55 AM
Yeah, I got my wideband setup in it. I also swapped out the boost gauge for one I trust and replaced the boost line too.
: Re: Jumping on the bandwagon with a 94 touring
: ITSWILL May 29, 2018, 07:53:52 PM
I finally fixed the airbag system and put everything back together.  It turns out the control/ diagnostic module that was in the car was for a 93.  The original must have went bad so they replaced it but got the wrong one. I finally found a good used one for a 94 after searching over a month.

I upgraded my older FC commander yesterday. It involved desolderimg the old screen and soldering in a new OLED one. I also had to solder in a resistor to get the contrast right. I wish there was a black background screen with white letters but this works nicely for now. Much easier to read.
