My friend from Chicago does car reviews for youtube, and when he saw that I had got this 79 rx7 he said he just had to review it. He actually has an 84 or 85 fb with an s4 13b swap. Go check out the video and his channel

That car is super clean.  look forward to seeing the progress when you get to it.  Saving money is definitely the way to go when you can.

Just picked up a super clean 1 owner 116k mile 1992 929 from Chicago on Friday. The plan is to sell the veloster and save some money from not making car payments so I can get a house to store my fleet of Mazda's. Car made it home from Chicago with no issues at all, the next day the alternator gave out and left me stranded right on the 18 1/2 mile and mound intersection. literally the worst spot to break down. So gonna hold off on selling the veloster till I get this back on the road. But long term plans are to bag it and eventually put an LS in it. Just a low somewhat slow VIP build.

I bled the clutch some more and that helped a little, adjusting the pedal freeplay under the dash helped out tremendously. Still a little hard to shift at higher rpm and reverse still sounds like a bolt action rifle, so I'm gonna check the fluid and probably change it. Does anyone know what the recommended gear oil is?

i would think that the oil level may be a little low.  so changing the oil will help it some.  I think it would not get rid of the entire hard shifting.  Ruby is a little tough getting into 5th gear, but i got it figured out now, I cant force it in.    You may have some synchros that need to be replaced.

I made a build thread for the first gen on the 7 club, and thought I had one going for the FC but I guess I never made one. So I started kind of a photo book of all the stuff I've been through with my car over the years. Writing it all out really made me step back and appreciate all this car has done for me and the places it's taken me without any real headaches. If you're bored go give it a read, not quite done yet and probably never will be but I've enjoyed the trip down memory lane.

Just did some polishing on the first gen, and WOW this thing got soooo much more yellow. I wish I would have done it before the meet last weekend, it looks great now. I'll have to grab some pics when the sun comes out.
Here's a little half hood polish for a before/after comparison. Picture doesn't do it much justice, but there's quite the difference

Anyone have any idea on why the trans would be really hard to shift? It shifts kind of OK around 2500rpm but is still pretty hard to get in gear. I replaced the slave cylinder and hydraulic hose already. Adjusting the pedal is next on my list, since it feels like the clutch isn't fully disengaging. Also saw some stuff on Rx7club about using different gear oil helped some people.

we are going to have to test that theory, thermal conductivity of a mild steel is almost 27 BTU/ft-hr-f where as stainless steels around 10 and inconel625 is about 6.

luckily there are no vac lines over there, I just have MAP/brake booster/FPR and they are well out of the way.

The exhaust will also get ceramic coated once done so that will help too.

Wow, looking great! Those flanges are pretty awesome, lots of surface area to shed heat. You may need to do some heat shielding for the intake and vac lines etc above them
