So I pulled the trigger on another car. This will be replacing the LS FC. It was born with an LS1 as God intended. I decided on this because I got the FC to its limit driveline wise. The TII rear end is strong but not 600 ft.lbs or torque and slicks strong.
This car has all upgraded driveline capable of handling 1000 ft.lbs of torque!
-
Nice! Glad you found one, now time to 20b swap it! Kidding, seriously though nice find, almost exactly what you were looking for.
-
Thanks, I'm pretty excited to go get it. It was a smoking deal, way better than buying stock and spending the money to piece together what amounts to over $17,000 in upgrades.
-
Yep, the C5 market is looking great for buyers right now, especially modified ones. Are you driving it back up or trailer-ing it?
-
driving it

Should be a fun trip.

here's a video of it in action

Now that's an angry-sounding Corvette!
-
That sounds really good! I also didn't expect the guy to almost max out 4th gear. Props to him, sounds like the previous owner knew what he was doing and knew how to enjoy his car!
-
So are you working on getting your hands on that 4-rotor to swap into this corvette? Would that still be considered sacrilegious?
-
I guess that would be acceptable!
-
Pictures from the trip to get the car. Operation Screaming Eagle was a success.

now that the Corvette engine is in the FC and up and running, its time to get working on the Corvette. Rich helped me throw an LS1 block in the car real quick to start working on turbo placement. I modified the engine mounts a bit for more turbo clearance. All in all it's going to be a tight fit but they will fit. The passenger side is going to need attention. Likely it will need a lower mounted AC compressor an AC line moved and potentially a mini starter.

Got one of the intercoolers mounted today and started on the other. I made some brackets out of aluminum and bolted them to the frame. The the fender will go back on and it will be like there is nothing there!
-
Also last night I stumbled on Rob Dahm putting a 13b in a C5. He says he may put the 3 rotor in it and have the first 3 rotor C5. Makes me want to start my own YouTube channel and beat him to the punch! I'm pretty set on saving the 20b for the FD. And GM had a 2 and 4 rotor vette 40 years ago anyway so the rotary vette ship has kind of sailed anyway.
-
I got the passenger side intercooler installed today. Also, got started on modifying the fuel rails which I will post pictures of when I am done.
-
Thats a really unique place to put those intercoolers - gotta make use of all the available space, huh? At least it should be easy to get all the air out of the fluid side - no need for those little radiator vent things! How are you going to plumb the intake to and from them? It looks like the outer exit would have the pipe coming straight up out the fender? That could look pretty cool in a Mad Max-type way anyway
-
the inlets to the intercoolers have a path directly into the engine bay where the turbos will be. Coming out of the intercooler it will follow the fender an an oval shaped tube and then tuck in front of the radiator where it will merge with the one from the other side and then go into the engine.
-
Well I broke out the $40,000 tubing ovalizer.
It actually turned out way better than I expected.
-
Not bad! Intake pipes?
-
Charge pipes
-
That looks good. Looks like it will be well hidden too.
-
Just got in a sweet shipment from Vibrant Performance . All the fittings look awesome!
-
Looking good! I love how the intercooler is a perfect fit for that spot.
-
I got both intercooler piping sections over the fenders completed. The rest of the piping should be easy. I think I'm going to mount up the heat exchanger and oil cooler next. The FC guys will recognize the oil cooler when I post pics.
-
You going to get her running anytime soon?
