91 white vert, hesitation problems
« on: February 22, 2011, 02:33:00 PM »
alright so i have changed plugs, wires, cleaned the throttle body, injectors(primary and secondary),  fixed exhaust leaks. compression is fine, now all i need to know is how do i time the ignition? also high beams arent currently working(just seems to pulse). and my stupid seat belt light keeps popping up and making stupid beeping noises(probably just gonna take out that light altogether). i have more things to do, but if anyone in near the Macomb Area, i would love to get to know more people that are knowledgable about FC S5s.

Hey bro I'd give you a hand if I ever get some free time. If you don't mind hangin on for another month I will be organizing another group work session. We all get together at my work and knock out some issues. Got plenty of space there. Stay tuned. Also you should come out to our club cruise and get to meet a bunch of rotary guys.

ok lets get your car fixed

do you have spark?

How do you know the compression is fine?

Describe what the car does? It just cranks I assume But what else?

Also why do you need to reset timing? have you taken out your crank angle sensor?

Lets just start with answering these questions and we will narrow down what is wrong before long.

Also do you have a multimeter?

Yeah, i have spark, i mainly just want to check the timing to make sure that it isnt off, since i have recently purchased the car, i'm not sure on what has or hasnt been done. The car does start up just fine, there is no hesitation on the start up. I mean so far, it's just hesitating whenever i give the car throttle. but the thing is, is that it's just intermittently.

First thing you should do is adjust the TPS!  Since you have an S5, it looks like you would need to fully warm the car up, then put a voltmeter between the green/red wire & ground, then turn the adjustment screw until you get it to 1V.  Also, confirm that the throttle moves smoothly.  If you still have the problem, then make sure that the plunger in the AFM also moves smoothly & doesnt bind up anywhere.  A good cleaning of it and it's connector can't hurt.

Also check the plungers on your 5th and 6th ports. if they aren't opening properly or are stuck closed you can get hesitation. remove from engine, depress plunger, while plunger is depressed put two fingers over the inlet holes and release plunger. If plunger stays down while your fingers are still covering the holes then they are good. if plunger releases while covering holes then you need new ones.

Are you receiving the problem at a certain rpm?

No sir lol, it's just at any rpm it will hesitate. i thought about checking the engine ground as some people have let me know about that problem. and as for pulling the engine, i dont have to tools to really pull the engine.  If i cant really get this car running then, i plan on putting the car up for sale. right now, i'm just testing waters with it, but not really harping over selling it.

Why would you be pulling the engine?

Also if you suspect a grounding issue or think you should check it, I would recommend checking it.

Ya you dont have to pull the engine to remove the 5th and 6th ports. they are on the pass side below the LIM.
